Forrestfield Mural Project
Through the vision, passion and determination of our Art Specialist Mr Rob Gear FPS was able to secure the services of internationally known mural artist Michelle Loughery from Canada.
Rob raised over $9000 through a variety of sources including local politicians, John Day, Donna Faragher and Stuart Henry, local businesses including Dulux who donated the paint in order to bring Michelle to Forrestfield to work with our school community. We even had assistance from the Canadian Consulate General in Canberra.
During two very hot weeks in February 2007, Michelle spent a lot of time talking to students and getting to know our culture before she started on the mural.
The mural is the focal point of the playground; it depicts two students in uniform reading amongst the flora and fauna local to the Forrestfield area.
Michelle strongly believes that the process is much more important than the product. She said, “The process is the coming together of diverse individuals to develop a vision and work together to achieve a common goal.”
The mural is central to our school and appears on many school projects including the annual report and our web site. It is the first thing you see when you enter our grounds.
The current population of students have left a legacy of a beautiful mural for the future generations of students at FPS to enjoy.
